Review Board

As the Manager of Communications for the Nunavut Impact Review Board, Ali directed communications and collaboration in the management of the environmental impact assessment process for the Canadian High Arctic territory of Nunavut. The Nunavut Impact Review Board is part of a co-management regime with multi-stakeholders, Inuit governance, the department of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, and the Nunavut Planning Commission, which manages one of the largest land use plans in the world.

For 2.5 years Ali lived and worked in an Inuit community in the high arctic circle, called Iqaluktuttiaq.

Also called Cambridge Bay, Iqaluktuttiaq means “place of good fishing” in the local Inuit language, Inuinnaqtun. Cambridge Bay is on the 69th parallel, just below the Northwest Passage.
